His real name was "Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan" (مرزا اسد اللہ بیگ خان), he was born 27 December of 1997 and died on 15 February of 1869) but still he is living in the hearts of those people who loves poetry no matter he is from Pakistan or India
He starts writing poetry in Urdu and Persian during the last years of "Mughal Empire" and he took his pen name of "Ghalib"  which means dominant and "Asad" means lion. He also got some honorific during his life by Mughal emperors i.e Dabir-ul-Mulk, Najm-ud-Daula. During his lifetime in 1857 the Mughal were eclipsed and Birth took the charge of India. So we can say that Ghalib was the last great poet of Mughal Era, still he is considered to be the one of great and popular poet of Urdu and Hindi languages, this is the reason today he remains popular in Pakistan and India and except these he is also famous amongst diasopra communities around the world.

One thing more which i want to tell you that Asad Ullah Khan Ghalib is the king of "Letters", He did not ever publish any letter but the letters which sent to his friends and students are very famous which is formally known as "Khatoot-e-Ghalib" and being studied in educational books in Pakistan.
Mirza Ghalib was born in the Kala Mahal, Agra in a "Aibak Turks" family. After the downfall of the Seljuk king this family moved to Samarkand which is recently know as Uzbekistan. Mirza Qoqan Baig Khan who was the grandfather of Ghalib, was a Saljuq Turk who moved to India during the era of Ahmad Shah Abdali (1748-54). He used to worked at Lhore, Jaipur, and Dehli but finally he settled in Agra. Mirza Abdullah Baig (Father of Mirza Ghalib) and Mirza Nasrullah Baig were two of his sons.

Mirza Abdullah Baig Khan (who was father of Mirza Ghalib) married to Izzat-ut-Nisa Begum who was belonged to Kashimiri Family. He was employed by Nawab of Lucknow and Nizam of Hyderabad. When ghalib was of 5 years his father died in a battle in 1803 in Alwar and was buried at Rajgah (Alwar, Rajasthan), then Ghalib was raised by his uncle Mirza Nasrullah Baig Khan

When he was of thirteen years, Ghalib married to Umrao Begum who was daugher of Nawab Ilahi Bakhsh (who was brother of Nawab of Ferozepur Jhirka). Soon he moved  to Delhi, with his brother Mirza Yousaf Khan, later he died in Dehli during the chaos of 1857.

After his marriage he settled in Delhi, where Ghalib lost his family, brother , house and everything which he owned by him in 1857. In one of his latter he described about his life that how he married and what he lost and how much troubles he faced. He considered that life is one continuous painful struggle which can end only when life itself ends, is a recurring theme in his poetry
